Blizzard Entertainment has not always been Blizzard, as the company, founded in 1991, was renamed Blizzard in 1994. The game's developer is known and loved by many different major brands. The long-awaited action role-playing game was released in 2012. Fans of the Hack and Slay series had to wait twelve years for the next part. The game was released for all major platforms and even for new generations. Diablo 3 was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. The development of the action role-playing game was announced by Blizzard at the 2008 World Wide Invitational. The new 3D graphics engine first used in Diablo 3 is partly responsible for the long development.

An action role-playing game (ARPG) is a genre of computer games. It is a mixture of two successful genres, action games and role playing games. Many also use the term hack and kill for games like Diablo. Hack and Slay is a subgenre of RPGs and a game system that puts a strong emphasis on combat. In a game like Diablo 3, you encounter many hordes of monsters and gain experience for every kill you get.

Diablo 3 is a classic hack and slay game that you play from a bird's eye view. A hack and slay tries to kill monsters in large quantities. So-called Hack and Slash is a role-playing term that refers to a game system or style of play. This way of playing is quite strong in combat, where the role-playing is a bit more in the background. These game systems and game styles were developed by Pen & Paper RPGs, which used less and less RPG elements and more and more monster battles. In games like Diablo 3, you get it not only by successfully completing the quest experience, but also by moving through the monster hordes.

In Diablo 3, there are a total of seven playable classes, each of which is unique and completely different. Each individual hero has his own skills and talents. You can play these hero classes: Barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk, demon hunter, crusader, and necromancer. The entire Diablo 3 game is a bird's eye view. But that's not too bad, because you can admire the new 3D graphics and physics engine. Despite the similarities in the user interface, the game is graphically not at all comparable to the others. Your skills and talents will be unlocked automatically with every level increase. You will also sometimes unlock runes and these will add special passive elements to your skills. In earlier Diablo parts you lost experience whenever you died. In Diablo 3, this system no longer exists, but now we always have to repair our things. Each time you die, our equipment loses 10% of its durability and you must have it repaired with gold by the blacksmith.

So-called heal balls, which are generally only known in jump and run games, are now available in Diablo 3. If you die with your character, you will no longer have experience loss as in the later sections. You lose the durability of your equipment when you die, and then have to repair it for gold.
